IntegraRE – Supporting immigrant integration in Reggio Emilia

Home / Portfolio / IntegraRE – Supporting immigrant integration in Reggio Emilia

Over the last few years, Italian society has become increasingly multi-ethnic and intercultural. At regional level, Emilia-Romagna has been characterized as the most welcoming territory: in 2017 the foreign residents are 529.337, equal to 11.9% of the population. The policies and interventions implemented over the years, however, have highlighted the presence of some problems typical of the migrant condition, starting from a specific and complex national legislation, a linguistic widespread and initial orientation needs and a persistent transnational dimension of their life. The challenge of the next few years will therefore be that of gradually accompanying all the welfare services in defining culturally competent and effective responses to the needs and phenomena of unprecedented complexity expressed by foreign people.

In this complex context, therefore, it is clear the need for Vocational and Educational Training to contribute decisively to the integration of migrants in society and into the labor market, also through the strengthening of the skills of young people who are specializing in the social field, with the aim of enhancing talents and skills and contributing to the strengthening of a more creative and innovative community, ready to deal with the challenges of the international and intercultural dimension.
The IntegraRE project is part of a context, that of Reggio Emilia, where the achievement of a good level of social inclusion of migrant people is at the same time an objective to pursue and a process that local policies must promote and address through the creation of a plurality of multidimensional interventions (school, training, work, social, health, home) closely related to each other.
